Horsmans in Camargue

Riders or hormans of Camargue are also called gardians. They live a typical cowboy life style. Gardians have a big role in keeping and perserving Camarguais traditions. They are known as skilled horseman that live solitary lifeamont cattle and horses in typical cabins. Cabins or cabanes are their typical home, with windowless single storey structures, inside you can see bulls horns that are there to keep off bad spirits. This modest cottages had minimum comfort but they provided gardians with all they needed during the day.

Traditional tools of gardian are black hat and a trident. Most of cabanes that remained to this days are transformed to hunting lodges.
