Linden trees alley in Blato town

One of the main attraction of Blato town is a one kilometer long linden trees alley with 117 linden trees. You can take a walk under the shade of a beautiful second largest linden tree alley in Europe.

Blato has more then 4.000 inhabitants, the town lies on the biggest road between Vela Luka and main town of Korcula, Korcula town. Town has a charming feel of a typical Mediterranean village.

It has an amazing entrance to the town it offers an kilometer long central street with century old linden trees. 40 km of amazing coastline that surrounds the town on the northern and southern side of the island. Town of Blato attracts numerous of travelers and tourists.

The valley between Vela Luka and Blato

The valley between Vela Luka and the town has been very fertile and it was once a huge lake. This lake helped the town of Blato to become a successful mercant center.

This is shown by varieties of churches and picturesque private buildings. 14th century old church of St. Jerome and graveyard Church of the Holy Cross are one of the oldest buildings in Blato.

Towns loggia is originally from the 15th century, the new one was built in 1700 and replaced the old one.

There are several baroque mansions beside a renaissance baroque citadel. There is another Church of St. Cosmas and Damian just outside the town which is also an interesting tourist spot.

Blato has many special traditions, there are 15 associations and different kind of cultural societies. 'Kumpanija' or Chivalrous Society is one of the most known one in Blato.

'Kumpanija' is their chivalrous game and on the 28th of April is St. Vicenza's Day and it take place then. With 'Kumpanija' they show the game that shows the Battle of Gica against the Turks in 1571.

Blato Carnival is another vibratn event at the beginning of Lent, the festival is also called 'munde' which is also a chanse where all the best female dancers can show their art. From the road leading to the southern coast you can enjoy Blato's seaside and its beaitufil view. There are many gorgeous little coves such as Potirna, Pizba, Karbuni and Grscica. This coves offer also beautiful beaches for every taste where you can relax, swim and sunbathe. If you want to enjoy the beautiful feeling of true Mediterranean island you cant miss Prigradica Cove, which lives on the northern coast of town Blato.
